🌍Tale of Two Cities: Roof of the World × Imperial Majesty
A clash of civilizations across time and space—from Tibet’s sacred Himalayan wilderness to Beijing’s imperial grandeur, where snow-crowned peaks dialogue with Forbidden City’s golden rooftops.
🌍Cultural Immersion
For the rest of the day, you can have free time to rest and prepare for tomorrow's exploration of the mysterious places.
Morning:leave the border town of Gyirong and come to the lakeside of Peiku Tso. Here, you may be lucky enough to see Tibetan wild asses and other animals, and also the reflections of holy mountains in the lake. After a short stay, continue to set off, taking pictures of the vast snow-capped mountains, grasslands and herds of yaks along the way.
Then, take the bus and continue along the G318 highway. You can see the 8,012-meter-high Shishapangma Peak, which is known as the "Auspicious Holy Mountain". Looking at the snow-capped peak in the sunlight from a distance, it is magnificent.
Afternoon:head for the long-awaited Everest Base Camp. First, we will come to the Gyawu La Pass. If we are lucky, we can see five snow-capped mountains over 8,000 meters from left to right: Makalu, Lhotse, Mount Everest, Cho Oyu, and Shishapangma. Here, the snow-capped mountain peaks are all in sight, and life directly faces the grandeur of heaven and earth.
After getting off the bus, take pictures with the 8,848.86-meter monument of Mount Everest. Then, freely visit the Rongbuk Monastery, which is regarded by many mountaineering experts as the best place to view Mount Everest. Come to the world's highest-altitude themed post office beside the Rongbuk Monastery. You can put your business cards in the mailbox and send out postcards. After the visit, go to the hotel or guesthouse at the appropriate time.
Morning: we leave the Everest scenic area. On our way back, we can see the very magnificent Lhotse, the fourth highest peak in the world, by the roadside. On our return journey, we will visit the Sakya Monastery, the main monastery of the Sakya Sect. There are precious Buddhist scriptures on palm leaves, the "Buddha Jia Long Ma" Tripitaka, Yuan Dynasty mandala murals, ancient porcelain and other cultural relics and historical sites in the monastery. The gray, white and red outer walls hide hundreds of thousands of scriptures.
Afternoon:we will head to Shigatse, reminiscing about the shock of the top of the snowy region.
Morning: we will first visit the Tashilhunpo Monastery, the residence monastery of successive Panchen Lamas. We will visit the 26.2-meter-high Jampa Buddha, the world's tallest and largest copper statue, the stupa hall of the 10th Panchen Lama, the stupa hall of the 4th Panchen Lama, the joint stupa hall of the 5th to 9th Panchen Lamas, and the Tsogchen Grand Hall one by one.
Afternoon:we will return to Lhasa.
Evening:it is recommended that you watch the live-action drama "Princess Wencheng" at your own expense. This is an outdoor performance, with the Potala Palace as the background, telling the story of a princess who married far away to Tibet 1,300 years ago.
(If you want to watch it, you can contact your tour guide to sign up one day in advance.)
Morning:we come to the Potala Palace, which is a landmark building with a great reputation in Tibet and an ancient palace-fortress-monastery complex. Then, we come to the Thousand Buddha Cliff, where thousands of brightly colored and various Buddha statues are densely engraved on the cliff. They can be traced back to the period of Songtsen Gampo in the 7th century, and have formed the current scale after being engraved in successive dynasties, which is really shocking.
Afternoon:we first come to the Jokhang Temple, where the 12-year-old life-size Buddha statue brought into Tibet by Princess Wencheng is enshrined. This Buddha statue is extremely sacred in Tibetan Buddhism, and believers come here to worship from thousands of miles away. Their pious appearance is really moving.
Then, we come to the Barkhor Street with a history of more than 1,300 years, and arrange a special Barkhor Street Citywalk. This is a kind of moving spiritual practice, following the pilgrims who prostrate themselves to measure the temperature of the stone slabs.
Then, we will arrange a special experience of Thangka/Tibetan Incense Experience (choose one of the two). The traditional Tibetan incense making technique uses dozens of spices such as cypress trunks, musk and white sandalwood as raw materials. You can experience the basic production process of Tibetan incense by yourself, or use minerals and pigments to have a dialogue with faith and outline your own works under the guidance of Thangka painters.
Morning:say goodbye to Tibet by plane. After arriving in Beijing, a special person will pick you up and send you to the hotel.
Afternoon:you can have free activities. You can make an appointment to experience the quintessence of Chinese culture - Peking Opera (reservation is required in advance), or take a walk along Chang'an Avenue to feel the atmosphere of the capital.
Morning:start the capital tour from "the Heart of China" - Tiananmen Square, and then come to the Forbidden City (the Imperial Palace), the imperial palace of 24 emperors in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It is the world's largest wooden ancient building complex, with 1,800,000 precious cultural relics, fully showing the dignity of the Chinese imperial family and the oriental aesthetics.
Afternoon:come to the Wanchun Pavilion in Jingshan Park to overlook the panorama of the Forbidden City. Then, take a walk along Nanluoguxiang and Gulou Street to explore the creative shops and traditional snacks in the old Beijing alleys.
Morning:come to the Great Wall, which is known as the "First of the Nine Great Passes in the World". We have specially arranged for you to take the cable car to the top to easily enjoy the magnificence of the "Hero Slope".
Afternoon:visit the Temple of Heaven, the place where emperors of the Ming and Qing Dynasties offered sacrifices to heaven, which is the highest manifestation of the ancient Chinese heaven worship culture. It will let you feel the cosmology of "round heaven and square earth".
Then, check in the landmarks of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games - the Bird's Nest and the Water Cube.
Morning:visit the Summer Palace, a royal garden in the Qing Dynasty. Row a boat on Kunming Lake and take a walk along the Long Corridor to enjoy the landscape paintings and feel the integration of Chinese landscape and pavilion art.
Afternoon:enter Prince Gong's Mansion, the largest princely mansion in the Qing Dynasty, to explore the luxury and historical vicissitudes of the mansion of Heshen, an official in the Qing Dynasty.
