Upon landing in the "City of Sunlight" at 3,650 meters, our guide and driver will greet you and assist with hotel check-in. After settling in, it is recommended to rest and acclimate to the high altitude to prepare for the upcoming journey.
Morning:After breakfast in Lhasa, set off and cross the 4,990-meter-high Gambala Mountain to reach Yamdrok Lake, a freshwater lake renowned as a "holy lake in the sky" with crystal-clear, drinkable water.
En route, visit the "sleeping ice beauty" Karola Glacier (filming location of the movie Red River Valley), a geological masterpiece sculpted by time.
Afternoon:Arrive in Shigatse and check into the hotel .
Morning:Depart Shigatse to explore the "Second Dunhuang" Sakya Monastery, a 900-year-old temple whose walls are painted in red (symbolizing Manjushri), white (Avalokiteshvara), and Cyan(Vajrapani), giving the Sakya Sect its nickname "Flower School." After the visit, travel west through Lazi County ("Home of Tibetan Swords") to Saga, passing by Lang Tso, a small but strikingly clear lake.
Afternoon:Check into a local hotel in Saga in the afternoon. As a Must-pass Town for Kailash pilgrimages, Saga hosts many Indian devotees and marks the starting point of the Ali South Route.
Morning:Drive along the paved Ali South Route to Zhongba County, where you can see the upper reaches of the Brahmaputra River, the Horse Spring River. Pass through Payang Town, known for its traditional Tibetan architecture. Continue west over the Mayum La Pass (5,200 meters) to encounter the turquoise Gongzhu Tso, a fertile lakeside grazing area with flocks of cattle and sheep. After Gongzhu Tso, the Namunani Peak comes into view.
Afternoon:pay homage to the "Source of All Waters" Manasarovar Lake and walk along the kora path to purify hands with holy water. Stay overnight in Darchen Town.
Morning :photography of Mount Kailash, its ever-changing clouds and light create a breathtaking spectacle, embodying both religious reverence and natural mystery.
Afternoon:arrive at the Zanda Clay Forest, a surreal landscape resembling an otherworldly terrain. Enter the Guge Kingdom, the cradle of ancient Ali civilization that mysteriously vanished in the 17th century, leaving only ruins and legends. Energetic visitors can climb to the hilltop for a panoramic view.
Stay in Zanda County, the historical heart of the ancient Ali Kingdom.
Morning:visit to the "Treasure House of Flying Apsara Murals" Toling Monastery to explore the fusion of Guge art and Kashmiri styles. Depart Zanda afterward.
Afternoon: photograph the magical reflection of Mount Kailash in the deep blue waters of Rakshas Tal. Re-admire Kailash from the national highway en route to Purang. Arrive in Purang in the evening and, weather permitting, enjoy views of the Himalayan snow-capped peaks.
Morning:Optional morning viewing of snow mountain sunrises near Purang, followed by a visit to the millennium-old Khorzhak Monastery to worship its rare silver Tara statue in the Maurya Dynasty style. The monastery is a shared holy site for believers from China, India, and Nepal.
Afternoon:Drive back to Saga , retracing the scenic route and bidding farewell to the holy mountains and lakes. Revisit the Mayum La Pass and stop at the Zhongba Sand Dunes on the upper Brahmaputra before arriving in Saga at dusk.
Morning:Leave Saga, a border town west of Shigatse, and stop at Peiku Tso, where Tibetan wild asses may be spotted, along with reflections of holy mountains in the lake. Continue along G318, capturing views of snow-capped mountains, grasslands, and yak herds. Spot Mount Shishapangma (8,012 meters), known as the "Auspicious Holy Mountain," glowing under the sun.
Afternoon: head to the long-awaited Everest Base Camp. At Gyawu La Pass, weather permitting, witness five 8,000-meter peaks: Makalu, Lhotse, Everest, Cho Oyu, and Shishapangma.
Take photos with the Everest 8,848.86-meter monument and visit Rongbuk Monastery, the world’s highest-altitude temple (ideal for Everest views). Send postcards from the altitude-themed post office before checking into the hotel/guesthouse.
Morning:Depart for Shigatse in the morning, with another chance to view the Himalayas en route. Visit the Tashilhunpo Monastery, the traditional seat of the Panchen Lama, to see the 26.2-meter-high Jampa (Maitreya) Buddha statue, the Stupa Hall of the 10th and 4th Panchens, and the Tshogchen Hall.
Afternoon:enjoy a Tibetan hot pot celebration dinner to toast the journey and friendship. Stay in a downtown Shigatse hotel after the meal.
